Research and development centres:
Located in the main production areas, this is where internal trials are conducted for the development and evaluation of horticultural varieties. Extensive research investments have been made in order to serve all the market segments that are producer oriented as well as consumer oriented.

Producer orientated:

• Wide assortment from early – late, shelf life, transportability.
• Field standing ability.
• Improved resistance to pests and diseases e.g. Trips, Fusarium, Clubroot, which gives the grower a higher harvest reliability.
• New product forms (Gaucho, Mundial)

Consumer oriented:
New segments as

• Different colours in cauliflower.
• Different/small sizes (mini’s) in savoy, white cabbages and cauliflower.
• Sweeter tasting green cabbages and mild tasting Brussels sprouts versus classics.
