Belgium: Per capita cauliflower consumption down to 1.85kg in 2009

Fresh vegetable consumption increased to 61.2 kg per capita

Cauliflower consumption in Belgium totalled 1.85 kg per capita in 2009, a decrease of 2.1% compared with the previous year, when 1.89 kg per capita were consumed, according to data released by the Flandria label.

On the other hand, consumption of Chinese cabbage and white cabbage increased by 37% and 25% respectively.

Due to the economic downturn, Belgians went shopping less often in 2009, but fresh vegetable purchases increased to 61.2 kg per capita. Indeed, the lower prices of fresh vegetables (-4.7%) acted as an incentive to by more.
