France: Vegetable consumption falls 4% in Jan-April 2010

Vegetable prices rise by 8%.

The French consumed fewer vegetables in the first four months of 2010 than they did in the same period of 2009. To be precise, vegetable consumption fell 4% in this period, according to Interfel, the French Association of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Distributors.

Consumption of vegetables registered a decrease of 5% when measured against average consumption figures for the period 2006 to 2008.

On the other hand, vegetable prices rose in the first 4 months of 2010, climbing 8% in comparison with the same period of 2009 and 11% in comparison with average prices during the 2-year period from 2006 to 2008.
