Indian cauliflower production totalled 6.6 million tonnes during the 2008/09 season, an increase of 9.9% in comparison with the previous season, when 5.9 million tonnes were harvested, according to data released by the Horticulture division of the Indian Ministry of Agriculture.

Cabbage production also rose, from 5.9 million tonnes harvested in the 2007/08 season to 6.8 million tonnes the following season (+15%).

The acreage assigned to both cabbage and cauliflower crops showed an upward trend in the 3-year period from 2006 to 2009. In 2006, cauliflower was grown on an area of 311,000 ha and cabbage on 250,000 ha. Three seasons later, these figures had increased to 358,000 ha (+15.1%) in the case of cauliflower, and to 308,000 ha (+23.2%) in the case of cabbage.
The Indian States of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra boast the highest vegetable acreage figures in the country. In 2007, vegetables were grown on an area of 1.5 million ha in West Bengal, while Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra registered approximately 1 million ha each.
In India as a whole, vegetable crops covered a total area of 9.6 million ha in the 2006/2007 season.
