50% of the Spanish population prepared a list and kept to it when shopping in 2009, 1.4% more than in 2006

Shopping frequency remained stable during the period from April 2009 to March 2010, as did the number of items bought on each shopping trip, according to the consultancy group Kantar Worldpanel. It was also found that shoppers are becoming more sensitive to price.

In 2009, 62.8% of the Spanish population planned their shopping, compared with 59.6% in 2006. The percentage of people who prepare a shopping list and keep to it rose from 48.6% to 50% over the 3-year period.

Those who follow a strict budget when shopping increased by 1.6% in 2009, while there was a 5.9% decrease in the number of people who buy more than planned.

Out-of-home meals

In the period from October 2008 to September 2009, 24.4% of the Spanish population prepared some kind of meal or beverage to consume at the office, at school or in the street four times a week, according to data from Kantar Worldpanel. This represented an increase of just 0.4% compared with the previous 12-month period.
While eating at school or in the street showed an increase in 2009 in comparison with the previous year, meals at work decreased by 5.4%. According to Kantar Worldpanel, the increase in out-of-home meals at school is due to the fact that various projects are being organised to promote healthy eating there. Parents themselves are preparing the meals and beverages for their children to consume at school.
