The Asian continent was the top broccoli and cauliflower producer during 2008

Asia represented 80% of world broccoli and cauliflower production reaching 54 million tonnes

World cabbage production totalled almost 18 million tonnes in 2008, 32% more than 10 years before. Asia was the top broccoli and cauliflower-producing continent, reaching 14.4 million tonnes in 2008 and accounting for 80% of global production. The Asian continent also reached higher growth (44%) between 1998 and 2008.



Europe was the second-highest broccoli and cauliflower producer, representing 13% of entire worldwide market production. In 2008 the European continent totalled more than 2.3 million tonnes, 7% decrease compared with 10 years earlier.

The American continent reached the third position with almost 1 million tonnes, which represents 5% of the world broccoli and cauliflower production. It also experienced 29% droop during the 10-year period between 1998 and 2008.

Following America, African broccoli and cauliflower production took 1.5% of the world market share producing 278,000 tonnes of broccoli and cauliflower. Over the 10-year period it showed 19% increase.

Oceania also was not a remarkable brassica producer. It accounted for 0.6% of all world production in 2008 and only produced 115,000 tonnes, showing 32% decrease since 1998.
